vibrating clutch pedal

Post by tomlucke »

I'd be grateful for any advice...
I'm getting a fair amount of buzzing/ vibration through the clutch pedal,
My traveller has a complete new clutch (fitted when I replaced the engine with a 1300 Ital). It hasn't been out for it's MOT yet so I have just been running it around the drive.
The vibration is noticeable when the car is idling in neutral and goes away with the slightest pressure on the clutch pedal.
There doesn't appear to be any problem engaging any of the gears.
A new brass spigot bush was inserted into the tail of the crank before the clutch was replaced.
any thoughts,

thanks

Sounds like it needs adjusting. How much free play is at the top of the pedal, if any?

Hardly any free play...maybe 3-5mm?

You may need to get more free play then about an inch is recommended I think. Did the clutch pedal shaft have any play in it as sometimes they can seize up or wear away the bush on the arm that goes through the chassis leg. Try the adjustment first though.

Is there a return spring fitted?
On the pedal there is a flat plate that stops it coming through the floor, there should be a bit of rubber there to effect a seal.
I've successfully replaced the invariably missing rubber with a cunningly crafted bit of foam pipe insulation which can be stuffed through the hole and fits where the rubber went.
Highly recommended for noise and draught reduction too!

You say the pedal vibrates when idling in neutral? There should be NO contact between the release bearing and the pressure plate when idling - foot NOT on clutch. I suggest you increase the free play (as mentioned above) to ~ 1" .

I've adjusted the pedal to give 1 inch free play but the vibration still persists much the same.
Any other thoughts?

Thanks
