Whilst you can get the majority of grunge/swarf out of the block there may still be some lurking in the oil galleries. I would always reccomend that you get the oilway bung plugs replaced with screwed plugs; you can then use a brush (available from Frost www.frost.co.uk) to ensure that all grunge/swarf is removed. Use the brushes on the crank oilways and rocker shaft also. When ever I reassemble an engine one of my first tasks is to ensure that all oil galleries are clean and to that end my engine is fitted with screwed oil plugs.

Thanks for all the advice, and rest assured I will make sure all the oil ways are crystal clear. I already have replacement plugs for the ones I drilled out, but not screwed ones, they are easy enough to replace in the event I need to remove them again. 

Should be ready for tea time.
