1275 durabilty

Post by JOWETTJAVELIN »

The 1275 version of the A-series may well be the toughest of the lot. But when there is a lot of blue smoke at cold start-up, non-existent when warm, what does this point to - worn stem seals and guides?

What sort of mileage can be expected from a 1275 before a major overhaul is needed? I would say at least 80,000. I am not talking about the A-Plus Ital engine here but the earlier Marina engines.

Depends entirely on how it has been used/abused. Blue smoke is not good - and many grasp at the stem seals.... just run it and see what the oil consumption is like.

Around town and general highway use - negligible. Motorway at 60+, 200 miles to the pint.

Either live with it - or overhaul it. Make SURE there is good suction on the crankcase.......

Having one engine being rebuilt I think I'll live with it for the time being, as I've had enough of overhauls for now!

I plan to give it a decoke before long so the head can be inspected then.

Do a compression check - if they are ok - leave the head well alone !
