Anyone know this car? Stupid idea or good first car?

Post by rainbox »

I'm currently looking for my first car, and found this which I really like the look of.
I won't be able to look at it before the auction ends, so I'm trying to get as much information/advice/opinions as I can!

Does anyone know this car? I noticed on the closeup there's a MMOC badge in the window so I was hoping somebody would have some information. I'm mostly worried about the underneath, I think the rest looks pretty good from the closeup photos.
If anyone can see anything to worry about, please let me know.

I know I really shouldn't buy blind, but when all the cars are 3 hours away it gets tricky... There doesn't seem to be much of a market for Moggies in Suffolk :-?

It looks nice so far as it goes, but no pictures of underneath or engine bay. You really do need to see the car in the flesh - check the suspension, door bottoms, hinges/pillars, floor, cills, crosmember, etc. Are the brakes OK? Listen to the engine and gearbox. Drive it. Would it get an MOT now? How well were the modifications done? It could well be an excellent vehicle, but without seeing it, it's just impossible to say. From what we can see, it looks good, but that is such a small part of the story. The seller appears to have 100% positive feedback, but what else has he sold to compare with a car? I want you to get a Minor and enjoy it, and wish that I could help more. Perhaps somebody will come along who does know the car...

The reason for not many cars for sale in Suffolk is because they know when they're onto a good thing, and hang on to them once they've got one.

Thank you for your feedback, I really don't know what to do. It's obviously a gamble, but then again again surely it can't be much worse than any other Moggie out there, they all seem to need work sooner or later although obviously later would be better.

If it's been used daily up until recently though surely that also suggests it's been looked after, at least to some extent.

I'm sort of hoping it doesn't reach the reserve price so I can have time to check it out first.

Ask the owners club in Suffolk, they will probably have some provenance.
