Insurance
Does MMOC have it's own car insurance just for Moggy's and if so is it only available if you become a fully paid up member?

A Moggy is for life not just for Christmas

Re: Insurance
I can recommend Lancaster Insurance, they were 3 times cheaper than Footman James for me.

Re: Insurance
Lancaster cant go wrong really. £88.00 fully com. semi rural on drive no security device(being rectified soon). definately shop around though. should do it every year as you can get penalised for being faithful to one company.

Try http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/index.html
for a quote. You need to be over 25 but don't need to be in a club. I pay £70 for a 1275 minor.

Re: Insurance
Just by a minute........
If you are looking for insurance for an under 21 - then your only option may be the 'Young Driver' scheme through the MMOC....

Re: Insurance
Agreed - not many insurance companies - if any now - are willing to take on learner drivers or those who have just passed their test, or who are under 25 years old. MMOC Young Driver's Scheme seems to be the only one that will do this.

Re: Insurance
We insured my 17 yr old learner daughter through Endsliegh for our series 2 minor. As a learner she cost just over £600.00 Fully comp and legal cover. When she passed it went down to just over £400, again fully comp etc. To insure just me fully comp would have been about £65.00...

Re: Insurance
When I was 18 I insured with Footman James, the first year was £600, went down to £400 on the second year, then on the third year they wanted £700! I took out my policy with Lancaster at 21, fully comp for £200. Adrian Flux insure young drivers, but I found them to be a bit more pricey though. Some insurers won't quote you online if you are under a certain age so you just have to phone up.

Re: Insurance
Got to go with the flow. Lancaster were 3 times cheaper for me also. What is more, in my ignorance, I didn't realise that a no claims bonus can only apply to one car. The Lancaster quote was about £85 based on full ncb but when I explained the situation they gave me the equivalent 'good driver discount' so the premium remained the same.

Re: Insurance
I've fallen for that one as well on our daily run abouts. I was well brassed off when we went to a two car family, we had to start our no claims discount again.timlyon wrote: What is more, in my ignorance, I didn't realise that a no claims bonus can only apply to one car.

Re: Insurance
A general point to bear in mind when comparing prices: "Classic" policies often do not build up a No Claims Discount, and if you've switched completely from a modern car policy - for instance if you've gone for the "moggy is my only car" approach - you may well find that after a year or two the NCD that you'd built up has been lost. Doesn't matter if you only ever run classics for the rest of your life, but could be expensive if you suddenly realise you miss the comfort, reliability, freedom from maintenance, and cheap fuel cost of a modern car and have to start again with your NCD.
Some companies will give starter discounts on second cars, or on returning to the fold, but in a year's time you may find that they don't show it as accrued NCD that you can pass on to another insurer, so they've got you by the wotsits on renewal.
I've been happy with RH, as suggested by others. I believe they do offer a discount for club membership - I get 10%, which effectively about halves the club membership fee for me (not the MMOC).

Re: Insurance
Classic car policies often do not have a NCD and can have restrictions on the use of the car.
I have 2 weeks to decide whether to change companies, RH are offering me 2/3 the premium against FJ and I cannot see any benifits to FJ except possibly the young driver's insurance which since I have retired, I do not think I will need.
Maybe the FJ premiums go towards sponsoring the NEC Classic Car Show?

Re: Insurance
Just as an added note, people shouldn't assume that you can't get a Mog quote from one of the usual websites. I just got quotes from Confused.com for a 1970 2dr, social, pleasure and commuting, 6000 miles, kept on drive, only car, one additional driver (my wife), with protected no claims bonus. The cheapest quote was with Lancaster at £105. I've also had quotes from CompareTheMarket with Adrian Flux who don't seem to offer NCD protection, Moneysupermarket, who gave the same Lancaster quote as above and GoCompare who also gave me the Lancaster quote. I'm 61 and my wife is almost 65.

Re: Insurance
Thank you everyone for your replies and guidance, I think I will give Lancaster a try first, I have tried others via Compare The Market and the cheapest was £225! I am over 25 but have 2 speeding endorsements (Not in the Moggy)
