Gauge Voltage Stabilizer Issues

Post by JerseyJim »

Hi... I'm a new member from the US. I recently started having problems with my gas gauge and turn signals. The gauge would drop to empty and the turn signals would not work. Early on, I could rectify the problem by restarting the car. However this has stopped working. Looking at the wiring diagram, it became obvious that the culprit was the instrument voltage stabilizer. However there is an interesting twist on this. I have had a problem with the engine dieiseling when shut off. I find that with the stabilizer acting up, the engine shuts off normally with no run on at all. It would appear that somehow these issues are linked. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. The problem is nothing to do with the voltage stabiliser - it IS to do with a bad connection at the FUSE - check the one with white and green wires... Take the fuse out - and clean the fuse and the holder lugs...... The 'running on' is not connected with this either. It's simply due to something glowing red inside the combustion chambers - which can ignite the incoming mixture. A good hard run flat out should solve the problem - or just live with it and stall the engine each time you stop.

I wouldn't stall the engine - it will put undue strain on the parts. Check timing and if no joy there a decoke is called for.

You just ease the clutch out in top gear - it's barely turning anyway..........

If you are having trouble with your fuel gauge and indicators then you should also be having trouble with your brake lights, wipers and heater motor, they all operate from the same fuse. Also check that all the terminals on fuse box and control box are tight

Easy if not economical way to stall the engine, press the accelerator down as you switch off the engine.
I know I know............but it works.
