fitting of Kick plates

Post by JGMOTORSPORT »

Hi

I am new to Moggies and just purchased a 56 4 door split screen with loads of work to do, now this may sound a stupid question but how are the kick plates fixed are they welded or bolted ?? I assume the finishing sill is bolted to the kick plate, the kick plates fitted at the monment look like home made bend bits of metal not good, any help much appreciated

Thanks

Kick plates are held with self tappers - and are just bent metal - and the finishing trim below is held on with a few little bolts and nuts...... Well shown here http://www.moss-europe.co.uk/Shop/ViewP ... exID=17115

But a previous owner could have welded them on, it is not unheard of

On this subject and just a thought. I've recently added a bead of clear silicon (and then over-painted) at each end of my kick-boards because I've only just realised why all four corners of the boxed sections have rotted out!

I've only ever removed the box kick-boards on two occasions, both times to repair inside. Water trickles down between the doors and door frames and not all of it runs down and off the the kick-boards, but instead seeps in at each end.
It may not stop all the water ingress but every little helps.

i fitted a small rubber seal on the ends of the kick plates. this seals of the bottom or the a and b pillar and stops water running into the boxing plate- inner sill. another good idea to to make sure drain holes are clear and put plenty of waxoyl, dinitrol wax in there while there off will help against future rust forming :)
