Say hi to our 2nd minor - Hussy

Post by tunnyx »

Hi all - please say a warm welcome to our 2nd Moggie minor - named Hussy (apparently she only runs well when there's a man driving.....)

Got her back home yesterday after a 50 mile trip - never missed a beat. She's a 1957 with 38,500 on the clock. Paintwork looks good but its very original so there's a lot of wear when you look closely. Having a 948 engine she's not the quickest off the mark but we've now got Jack learning to drive (£360 insurance in my name) which was my aim.

She's got a small hole just behind the o/s front wing, underneath, so this will be getting sorted shortly and she's also got what appears to be a very rare colour combination - green with 'mustard' interior - not a factory combo as far as I know - I'm not sure if its actually a standard minor colour and perhaps the seats aren't minor's?

All in all a nice drive - pulls well in all gears, albeit occasionally crunchy between 1-2 and 3-4 when you try and change quickly. A very honest little bus.

Thankfully there's no electrical issues and she's got plenty of paperwork so I hopefully wont need to ask too many tech questions about her in the immediate future...

Cheers

Hello and welcome Hussy :) nice to hear that Jack is learning and the crunching will teach mechanical sympathy which is never a bad thing in my opinion

kind regards

Scott

Maybe she is brazen, many hussys are apparently :)
Check for brass in her undercarridge!

The interior colour is superb. :) Was it an ebay buy? I remember this car advertised for sale somewhere.

Hi Irm - yes, although learner driver + MM gearbox is never likely to be a marriage made in heaven I guess. I'm fine with her, barely a click, but he'll get there!

Thanks Jowett - I like it - something different! It was on Car and Classic website and I did post an earlier thread on its number plate (an A reg) despite being a '57. It's all good though.

I've bought it for Jack to learn in and once he's passed his test and got florence (his red 2 door) up and running fully I'll change the insurance over to him & in his name. I've already had a quote for £950 which is around 5 x less than any 1.0l car of nowadays.

Once he's done, my plan was to sell it on, but its such a nice car I may well keep it for my 14 year old to learn to drive in and enjoy it myself for a few years... I can feel a few historic rally'c coming on!
