I don't collect model cars, well I did when I was a kid but I happened to be looking at some the other day and thought they don't look like the cars they represent. It struck me that it's the same type of thing we get with our spares!! Back to the models, anyone else noticed ?

Yes it is odd that so few model and toy makers produced Morris Minor models contempory to the real cars production. I guess it wasn't seen as glamorous enough to sell well.
Being pedantic Dinky did produce a Minor, a late Series2 Post Office van in the Dublo Dinky range produced to accompany the Hornby Dublo trains, but no nothing in the conventional range - nearest being the MO Oxford in the late forties.

Triang Spot On did a four door saloon in their slightly larger than Dinky 1:42 scale and Lesney Matchbox a four door in about 1:76 scale but thats about it on contempory diecast.

Spot-on made a nice Minor, 1:43 (Dinky) scale, but it commands a premium nowadays.

Forty years on from my first attempts I sadly still like to build the odd plastic model kit. I've been searching for a Minor kit for some time and not come across one yet. Does anyone know of a company that makes one? A couple of years ago I came the nearest I'll ever get to an Austin Healey restoration when Revell released a limited edition 1/16 version of a 100/6 that went out of production some years ago. I painted it red and cream. Yes, it is very sad!

I think these are alright, the little green one and the coal car look spot on to me.

I do have several Dublo Minor vans on my Dublo layout!! But it seems odd to me that they never made a Dinky Minor. I wonder if BMC refused to pay them a 'fee' to do so?? It was such a popular car at the time - would have thought many a lad would be keen to have a Dinky car 'just like Dad's'

Yes it was an odd omission. They did an A30 and a VW beetle...
As I said there were very few diecast models available when the Minors were in production. Just the Spot On, and the Lesney one really, plus a handful of Plastic ones, the big Victory, Triang Minic and Brimtoy beign the main ones.
Not a problem these days though as there's loads to go at with the likes of Corgi and Oxford Diecast, Sunstar and Seico etc. You just wait for them to issue a verison in the right colour to save the bother of repainting one like your own car...
(I may have a wait for a Rose taupe van with OEwhite roof and side windows, so may have to convert one when I get a moment!)

Wow! Didn't realise they were in that league valuewise. I suppose I'd better not build either of mine...
