Let assume the engine is a 1098 A Series. Leaks seem inevitable, do you have a BMC workshop manual ?

Seals I can think of , starting from the top. - Someone else can be concerned about breather pipes leaching oil.

Rocker Box cover to cylinder head. Normally a cork or rubber gasket , sometimes held in place by extensions to the underside of the the rocker box cover. More often than not the gasket gets misaligned and oil seeps out.

Timing case cover gasket ( needs removal of dynamo belt drive pulley from crankshaft extension ) Single gasket , make sure that its placed on straight and the holes match cleanly with the little bolts securing the timing case cover.

The seal ( felt on 948s , steep in a bit of oil before fitting into the ridges ) in the timing case itself where the crankshaft passes through. Later a metal re-inforced rubber seal fits into the ridges in the timing case ( maybe, sometimes , anyone got any ideas how best to locate it ? ).

Timing case covers - simple gaskets , ensure correctly fitting and not drooping.

Sump : Two gaskets either side , same fitting as the timing case cover gasket.
Rubber seals from and rear of sump half moons fitting into sump groove and clamping around the crankshaft area. ensure correctly fitted.

Engine rear plate , gaskets on that ensure fitted.

The tricky bit : The rear end of the crankshaft has a groove machined into it , this is an oil thrower designed to throw oil back into the sump. Wear in the groove and in the crankshaft can turn it into dropping oil out of the engine instead.

Dont forget the gearbox - oil seals on the first motion shaft and on the inner cover plate , if these fail oil drips into the bellhousing area and out through the little wiggle drain hole.

No rubber seals on the sump - cork as standard, although 1275 rubber ones can be modified to fit. But why bother - the cork works fine ! You need to find the oil leak - otherwise you are just shooting in the dark.... Most leaks are caused by pressure in the crankcase - pushing the oil out at various places...... Eliminate the pressure and you have sorted the leaks.......
