Hi, I write you from Almeria (South Spain)
Sorry but my english level is not good.
I'm owner of 1958 948cc Morris Minor Spanish plate and LHD, I like put in my car one 1048cc engine my question is: the 948cc gearbox can to be mount in the 1048cc engine?

It can be, but you need to change the clutch and the engine backplate from the 948 to the 1098 engine (maybe more) for it to be done.
There is no real reason for doing so - simpler to use the stronger 1098 style box, bolts into the car the same as the 948 box but is less hassle..

I assume by 1048 you do mean 1098 - a 1048 would be a very difficult match (if one exists, that is!)

Thank you very much for your response, sorry has done an error, the engine is 1098cc and I do not have 1098cc gearbox only 948cc gearbox. Questions: the electric starter, the rear cross menber, radiator, propeller shaft, supports of engine and exhaust there are the same for both engines? Best regards

Yes! All exactly the same.

The 948 gearbox has a different front cover to the 1098 and the clutch release arm could be too far forward for the bigger 1098 clutch. Please check very carefully to make sure that the clutch carbon thrust is not rubbing on the gearbox mainshaft and the release arm can still be connected to the operating rod.

The 1098 cover cannot be simply fitted to the 948 gearbox, as some of the mounting holes are in different positions. Has anyone firsthand experience of using a 948 box directly with a 1098 engine without making any modifications? Does it work?

Earlier the advice was to use all the 948 engine parts on the 1098 engine. So backplate / flywheel complete with clutch all fitted to the 1098 engine. The gearbox then sees exactly what it saw before - and WILL work. Yes - it's the smaller 948 clutch, but it will be fine on a standard 1098 engine. This is the simplest/foolproof way forward. Mixing and matching is fraught with problems. By far the best of course is to use all 1098 parts - but if they are not available, then the 948 parts will do the job.
