Any ideas as to its use ? Found at the back of a cupboard, forgot it was there.
It's about 6 inches tall

Excellent! Is the handle on top just for a stopper - or is there a brush attached??

It's a stopper but threaded something like 5/8 bsf and 1/2 inch long. I've cleaned it up and it looks a treat. It had something like linseed oil in it. Don't know what the gpo used it for.

I used to work for Post office telephones, now BT, formally GPO, and we used it for meths.
Just can't remember what we used the meths for!

Hi Beero
Starting blow lamps before we changed to gas, used in plumbing lead cables, I think
It was a long time ago

Yes Reg, you could be right. We used gas when I did lead plumbing but, now you have jogged my memory, I seem to remember using it for a Davey lamp, used for gas testing in manholes, and then cleaning the foils used on epoxy putty plumbing.

Yes you don't see many meths drinkers these days - they're probably all brown bread.
