I'm still not getting a spark of any kind from the Kind lead (although earlier I did manage to get a slight spark but I cannot re-create it now - it appears to be hit and miss, either the KL is fubar'd or its not connecting properly inside the coil. Is there a simple way to check the KL connection to the coil is strong?So you should then get a spark (it won't be great because there is no capacitor in circuit) when you touch/release the red (should be white/black) wire to earth from the 'king lead' provided it's making a good connection in the top of the coil - please check !
It 'seems to be in ok condition, not great but ok.....And the HT lead itself is in good condition? We need to do this one step at a time.......
Correction - the king lead at the distributor side has a little nick in it - doesnt appear to go through but nevertheless....
Update : Having just gone out, stripped off around 1/4" at both ends, and I started getting a good spark. I've then refitted the lead and the dizzy/rotar and hey presto, she's alive.
I can only presume there must have been a weakness in the core wire (its the original king lead) near the tip of the dizzy end (either that or the coil end wasnt fully connecting inside the coil), but it was obviously the lead..
Thanks guys, for all your help - I did say I was going to take it all apart and then test methodically but upon realising I wasn't getting any spark even when we ruled out all the dizzy parts being at fault, it must have meant it was the lead or coil. Having checked the lead closely I removed a small amount from the dizzy end and then stripped back a bit at the coil end just to ensure a good strong connection at the coil.
Cheers again chaps - no doubt I'll be back on again asking more annoying questions - hopefully they wont be electrical related!
