Gearbox and drivetrain problem I think...

I just want to check with everybody on here what you think this problem is.

When in any gear it drives fine, BUT if you put you push the clutch down when in any gear and 'coast' it seems to 'drag' and make a whining noise. Now there is no issue changing gears either when moving or stationary. So, I'm imagining that the clutch is fine but that the drag and whine is a worn gearbox? NOT the drivetrain though, as it is fine in neutral.

So drag and whine = worn gearbox?

Other than that and sometimes having to double declutch to get into second, it is great. Live with the whine and drag??

Have you checked clutch adjustment? Should be 3/4" free play at the pedal before resistance is felt... check it with your finger pressing the pedal.

Also check the clutch return spring.

Note the free play is different between 948 (3/4") and 1098 engines (1.25"). Why would you want to coast with the car in gear and the clutch down? That is certainly not a recommended driving style.

Worn out carbon thrust - keep your foot off the clutch..........

It is actually a brand new clutch... is the thrust bearing part of the new clutch or a seperate piece that should have been changed at the same time. How long will it go on like this before I need to take the gearbox out and fix?

Just looked on esm - the doughnut shaped thrust was changed at the same time as the clutch itself. There is free play, yes. And I don't usually coast in gear with the clutch in, only recently whilst wondering what the drag / whine was.
