how to get rid of rust?

Hi ~ total novice when it comes to Moggie refurbishment ~ so could someone let me know if the paints that say that they get rid of rust are as good as they say ~ or is it down to old fashioned elbow grease to get rid of rust?

Paints are hopeless for rust removal, you must cut it out and weld in new metal. If it's a surface chip - then yes it can be rubbed down to clean metal, treated with 'rust killer' and then painted. But if the rust is coming through from the other side of the metal panel - refer to the first sentence.

Usually elbow grease If it's a small area that needs treating try something like Kurust. Follow the instructions and then repaint accordingly.
