a series tuning
the most fun ive had in a tuned car and ive drove some expensive cars was an old a35. i brought an old a35 which are cheap to buy, totally standard. i had it looking totally original apart from being low and on low profile tyres with original looking rims.i put mg disc brakes on it which is a sraight swop, midget close ratio box,i had the exhaust exit in front of the rear wheel and the original short exhaust pipe still in place at the back of the car so all looked original,oh and a med built 124bhp 1430cc breathing through a single 45dcoe weber on straight tube steel inlet manifold, roller rockers, belt drive etc.the engine cost me around £2000 in the end,but when your going up the slip road of the motorway pulling away from xr3,s and golfs in your little standard grandad car,oh what fun, those were the days!

Sierra gearboxes are fairly cheap from the scrapyards......... unfortunately the bits to attach them to a moggy are a bit more expensive......
If you want 5 speeds and a 948 engine then (unless you can pick up some 2nd hand bits) it's not going to be mega cheap.
Keep an eye out in the club magazine (Minor Matters) there is sometimes 2nd hand 5-speed conversions for sale.

Engine upgrade
If 85bhp is enough power for your requirements, we now do modified 1.3 Maestro engines. These are brand new, unleaded electronic ignition, alternator, etc. We also fit the MG Metro inlet manifold and carb, which inturn allows the fitting of B'ham MMC three branch manifold. The cost is £1400 plus vat. I realise that this is advertising of sorts, and may be edited in which case you can pm mefor further details,or use the web link kindly provided on a previous post.
The beauty of this motor is the crank breather and proper crank seal, which lends itself to standard tuning or turbo's. Mind you if you really want to keep your 1098 motor, my engine man can extract a reliable 110bhp or upto 120bhp, mind you I don't think this will be a relaxing drive.
