Well done - so the problem is with the ignition switch. Was anything done to this ? Just run the engine for a while with the temp lead in place - and set up the idle speed - to allow the battery to pick up a charge!

Check that all wires to the control box are secure,
Check wires to starter solenoid
Check the wiring to the ignition switch
2 white wires to T2
White/Red to T1
Blue/Brown to T3
You will probably have to remove the speedo which is why it is the last check

cant get hold of any screw in type leads
It's just HT lead, you should be able to buy any length you like off the reel.

No, its the other way round - surely he can't have taken them off and put them back on the wrong way round? Could he?

One of those jobs where an experienced person could look under the bonnet and spot the problem in 2 minutes

Once again, thanks to everyone who's inputted - I feel darn stupid now, but Jack's owned up - he said he disconnected it when he was replacing the heater pipes and when he put it back together it seemed wrong to 'cross the wires'. In all reasonableness I can't fault his logic!

Cheers y'all - onto the next task now.....

I think the logic to remember is the brown wire mounted on the starter switch needs to be attached to the feed from the battery , to take power route power to various loads on the car, (? all loads as I cannot think of any other connection other than the switch itself for starter motor feed ).
