Interior Mist Repellent vs Hot Wet Dog!

Post by timlyon »

Ok, so it is that time of the year again when the world vanishes behind a fog of misted up windows. Yesterday I dug out the Halfords Interior Mist Repellent and treated the windscreen, side and back door glass. I left the rear side windows for comparison purposes. This morning I loaded up Cookie the lurcher and took her to a field for her morning run. She returns to the car hot, wet and steaming, the perfect test!

The good news is that the treated glass remained completely clear whilst the rest fogged up immediately. In fact the area around the tax disc holder where I missed some bits also misted up. I shall now do the rest and look forward to clear vision. I bought the stuff about 10 years ago for a previous Minor (HOB 380D) and I can't remember how long it lasts but this is certainly worth doing.

One trick my father used and I rediscovered some years back is to soak a clean rag in some diluted washing-up liquid
- when dry it can be used to spread a thin film of liquid on misted wind screens and windows.
Works well in damp Brittany.

I seem to recall that it was popular to cut a potato in half and wipe the cut edge over the screen. Whether that works or not I have no idea! Controversially I have also put Rainex on the outside of the windows and rain is certainly running off beautifully.

What are the instructions for applying the anti-mist?
I bought some several years ago from a French supermarket having not seen it before but, surprise, surprise, the instructions are in French

The Mist Repellent that I have is a clear liquid that you apply with a clean cloth to clean glass. Then allow to dry and polish glass with a soft cloth. Seems to work. It was a cold morning this morning and on the way back I noticed that the chrome around the windows had condensation but the glass was still clear. Good luck!

Rainex.
I'm a fan of their stuff for the outside of the glass so I grabbed it off the shelf without looking at the instructions.

Many thanks, will have a look next time I go to my local Leclerc (the cheapest Hypermarket in France), I'll try some on my 307 that lives outside - Obviously the Traveller is in the garage.
