What if MOTruns out before 18th Nov

Hi All
My 1959 Traveller will not be ready to go on the road till next year BUT When the MOT on 3 of my bikes (first reg 1946, 58 and 58) expire at the end of September, Can I simply leave them in the Garage until 18th November and then carry on riding them? They are Tax and insured until August next year.
I was discussing this subject with several vintage car owners at the Malpas Yester year steam Rally and severall had cars on the road with MOT's expiring before the magic date,their is a bit of confusion.

I will be in the same position although my car is currently MOTd one of my motorbikes is on a SORN although perfectly restored and roadworthy according to me .I am undecided about whether the new regulations are good or bad for our interests in old vehicles but one thing I am certain about is that any qualifying vehicle not presently on the road should be the subject of an MOT prior to being allowed back , although this might inconvienience a small minority of dedicated people it would I think stop a lot of possible unroadworthy vehicles being driven and bringing our hobby/interests down to a really low level with no checks at all being done

You'll need to MOT them if you wish to use them.

If you don't wish to use them, so long as they're taxed and insured and off the road, I'd imagine you're fine.

I've just had to MOT a 58 because I need to use it for the next two months, and couldn't just not use it until november.

I'll still be 'MOTing' exempt cars if a garage is prepared to carry out the same test, for my own peace of mind.

When my traveller is ready for the road, as it has had such an extensive amount of welding and had everything removed and replaced bar the front suspension, I will take it for a safety check/MOT, as chrisryder says "for peace of mind".
And as dalgrae says I think any vehicle that has been on SORN should be checked by a competent person. Or we will have unsafe MOT failures suddenly on the road.
But the bikes I know are ok (one has only done the 7 mile return trip to the MOT station in Sept last year) and breaks lights are all ok, nothing else to wear out in such low mileages.

Yep , very similar situation , just bought a 1957 Minor off fleabay , last MOT was Oct 2010. Does that mean come 18th November , with having gained insurance I can just trundle off down the road ?.

As mentioned above , I'm going to my local MOT garage and I'm going to ask them to detail what needs doing to get it roadworthy - I dont care if I pay the going MOT rate. I'm not sending my 17yr old son down the road in a potential death trap , although as with most things there will be a few who abuse this new law.

Have a friend in traffic (police) who says they've already been issued with 'comms' to look out for unroadworthy pre 60 vehicles and if necessary stop to ensure they are totally roadworthy.

I have this vision of seeing many more 'barn finds' and 'projects' in Tesco and Sainsbury car parks.

As above it you intend to use the vehicle it needs to be taxed, mot'd and insured, if you have it in the garage on a sorn then it doesn't need mot tax or insurance ( insurance is just for piece of mind if it were to get stolen etc) no vehicle needs to be taxed as long as it is on private property and is staying there oh and the dvla are advised that it is on a sorn
