Insurance Valuation

Post by washer-bottle »

Hello all

My FJ insurance policy is up for renewal and a new agreed valuation is required. It says I can do this myself if its less than £15k or I can go and get my 1970 traveller valued by a specialist. So has anybody had their Minor valued recently? What did it cost and where did you go? I have no idea what mine is worth, it currently at £4k. I am near Swindon and there is nobody local that springs to mind that I can go to without taking time off work and making it a day out.

Thanks

Al

I don't know how much it would cost, but Minorparts of Oxford do valuations I think, and they are not so far away from you (26 miles from Swindon according to Google). You wouldn't need a day for that!

hi
do you think it's worth than 15K ? If not why not do it yourself and send them pictures ,if you ask too much they will soon let you know,or are you concerned about undervaluing your moggie?
Cheers Alex

All depends on condition..................

Lancaster have an 'independent' valuer and you simply send off 6 pictures f the car along with any invoice work/parts and tell them what you think the car is worth.

They either agree, or tell you what they think it's worth.

Don't forget that your trying to get a value for a replacement for your car in a similar condition if the worst should happen and if you take prices from one of the main restoration firms for a completed car, which is what you may end up having to pay, well £4k is derisory I'm afraid.

FJ operate in exactly the same way Dave. You send in the photos with the valuation form and the it gets assessed against the value you are stating it's worth, the problem is the OP doesn't know how much it is worth.

The club have a number of valuation experts. It might be worth finding out whether one of these valuers attend your local area meeting. That way you could go along to the meeting in the evening and have your valued whilst you are there. I can't advise on value but, if it's a nice example. then the dangers of having it undervalued are obvious!

WHy not just post up a few photos on here, people on here are generally knowledgeable on values, and aslong as u take a good average, or just the mode you will get a fair price.

I sent in a valuation of mine at 6 1/2k because of all the Police gear inside of it.

Hello all

Thanks for your tips. I rang FJ and they let me increase the value to £6.5k for the same premium. When I send in the valuation form they will not charge me the extra £20 admin fee. I just picked a number out of the air based on what good travellers are going for in MM. Until I send in the form and they agree it they will pay market value up to £6.5k, once they are happy with the form then that is the agreed valuation.

Is there anybody from the club going to Hardwick Hall this weekend who could help with a valuation? I have not booked for that rally, but the weather looks good so I might just go along and chance my luck.

Here is a photo from the 5 CAPITALS rally. I did not know at the time that I had a blocked fuel filter. I have fitted new trunnions, radiatior, heater, water pump and pipes, and had the wheels blasted and repainted since then so its a bit cleaner now.
