Pickup restoration part three

In between working on Dobsey, the family rocking Horse restoration project, Ive got my spare blade out.[frame][/frame]

and here's the reason it was put to one side during the original retoration, the tip has seen better days, But they may not matter if I shorten the blade either side.[frame][/frame]

lots of rust, still, Ive not dealt with rust for a while now, time to get stuck in, but lets have those tips off first....[frame][/frame]

cutting a tight circle isn't in the capability of a stiff cutting disc, so Ive cut it off level with the apex of the curve.[frame][/frame]

then a combination of cutting and grinding to get the curve at the end.quite a bit of deburring still needed here...[frame][/frame]

when both ends are curved I can then hold it up to the vallance to see if it will work. The vallance does have a hole in the end that will need filling.[frame][/frame]

Looks like you've got a valance/wing misalignment in your first picture, check your bumper supports are straight, that might cause the slant.

Does the body bumper iron have the deep cup washer fitted that you can put spring washers behind the bolt? It may be enough to add washers to stop the back of the valence hitting the bottom of the wing and hopefully make it sit a bit better.

Yes that will give a clearance at that point but can't see it closing that sort of gap.

Why have you got the grinding disc mounted upside down?

I do think I have a bumper bar missalignment here, I may have to do some lateral thinking to get the vallance to sit right, maybe the supports have had a shunt in a previous life and are bent down too far?[frame][/frame]

spot on Louise, the bumper supports provide the right curve when fitted sideways on, as per the manual, thanks for spotting that. The ends of the valance raised up higher as I bolted on the shortened blade, almost there, just slight gaps to close up.[frame][/frame]

There should be little rubber gubbins attached to the bottom front edge of the wings to stop rattles.
Can't tell if you have them or not.

Sorry but those bumper mounts or "over-rider springs" were never fitted to LCV's. They are only fitted to saloon or traveller variants which all have overriders. LCV's dont have overiders so the the springs are not needed.

I can scan in a LCV parts manual if needed, which shows no over-rider springs. The one that louiseM has kindly shown is a saloon variant version bumper.

Would that make the fit any different? Think the actual bumper irons are the same.

In an earlier post David said that he was using a traveller bumper, including the redundant over rider 'springs', which is why I posted a pic of the saloon / traveller bumper fittings:

Yes that's right Louise, I've used a bumper valance and bar from a Traveller along with the over-rider springs, But Steve, if you have that scan of how the Pickup Bumper fits up, it would be very helpful, thanks. So Far the bars have aligned the valance to minimise the wing to valance gap, Once I learnt that I had them on incorrectly.
