My soon to be modified Morris

Here's a picture of how my Morris currently looks, fairly standard 64 2dr


So far all I've done is got some 13x8J allycats & anti-rollbar on, spax tele dampers and 5speed kit are both ready to go on. I also got a set of fibreglass arches and extensions so the wheels aren't too wide for our law enforcement friends!

Engine will be going in soon, 1098 rebored to 1132cc, crank ground 0.020" on mains, big ends 0.010", block skimmed 0.020", high compression pistons to 10.5:1, crank and flywheel pulley dynamically balanced. Ported head with big valves, stellite exhaust seats (obviously) skimmed 0.015" Manganese bullet guides, fitted with fast road double springs and inner spring locators and new stem seals

Not yet, I don't drive very fast, still a bit torn whether to get the Marina front discs and go through the hassle of getting them to Minor PCD or whether to find some bigger Riley drums

Not much point balancing a 1098 crank assembly - since it WILL break if you rev it over 6000.......

Hello Edward,

just be aware that with such an offset on the front wheels, going through puddles at the side of the road can drag the car quickly to the left. Either avoid them if possible, and\or hold the wheel very firmly. The reason is the contact point of the tyre is far from the centre of the steering axis.

If you haven't already, a brilliant book to read on tuning the A series is the Vizard book.

As Alec points out - these wheels are not clever at all. The handling and braking will be terrifying.......with tremendous snatch and weaving....... Wide stance suspension is fine - IF the suspension is designed that way. Adding on wide offset wheels is NOT the way to do it.

Is it just me or do those tyres look a little on the slick side That aside, I love the understated look. With regards to the width of the wheels, I've been driving on 13x7 on the front and 14x10 on the back and not had any problems with that set up. I would just see how it feels day-to-day.

It's not the width that matters - it's the crazy amount of offset! When you turn the steering, instead of the tyre pivoting on a 'spot' it will be running round in an ark!

it doesn't matter what car it is, excess offset is bad; aren't Volswagens used just for posing?
