Xply tyres Tubeless or not?

Post by mickeytwonames »

I've just picked up a pair of unused but old Indian Super (made in GB) 5.60 -14 Xply tyres from a man that had a Morris but never used them. I've got tubeless ones on at present but two are getting worn - If a tyre doesn't have 'tubeless' written on the side does that mean you must have an inner tube? The question is - what makes a tyre tubeless?
Many thanks in advance for any help

The 'tubeless liner' makes it tubeless..... A special butyl liner which is moulded into the tyre. So yes - you MUST use a tube in these tyres if they don't say 'tubeless' . To be honest - these tyres are likely to be so old as to be useless - the side walls will probably be cracked and the tread will be so hard that it will have almost no grip on the road. I wouldn't use them........ Take care if you do..

Be very carefull as BMC says. It's considered good practice in the tyre trade NOT to fit tyres over 7 years old. All tyres are now date coded and stock must be rotated to sell older ones first. Tyres deteriorate with age, this deterioration can't always be seen! Most of part worn tyres sold in GB are removed from foreign cars under that particular country's law on tyre usage and age.
