Square eyes!

Post by CherryPeeks »

I've got square eyes after hours or trawling the net looking for a traveller! :-?

Can anyone recommend a good magazine/publication that I can buy to look through before the iPad explodes (along with my eyeballs!)?

Thank you!

"Minor Matters" of course. Your very own Club Magazine that comes out every two months, and has a classified section in it. Also, post a "wanted" on this forum. Good hunting, we look forward to welcoming you to the wonderful world of Minor ownership

It's published at the begining of January, March, May, July, September, and November, so about three weeks. You should have been sent the current issue when you joined, and all others will arrive in the post as soon as they are available. The Drby office can usually supply some back issues.

Have you seen this one ? Obviously a problem with the tyre sizes - but probably worth a look - and 'negotiate' the price..........

Another place you can keep an eye on is Gumtree;

Emma - you will never get a 'perfect' one in your price range. They go for >£10K!! Which of course is madness - you can get a perfectly good Porsche 911 for that !

To be honest from the description and what can be seen from the pics none of the "bad points" are of any importance and the price seems very fair.Certainly seen far worse advertised for more money.

Haha

I know I won't get 'perfection' for my budget, but the rust spots listed seem to be all over the car - surely this will require a lot of work to correct? And it's not something I can take on myself so I'm guessing would not be cheap?

I agree it's lovely, and imperfections in the right car are perfectly acceptable to me. I'm just not sure this is it..... :D

I will check out gum tree too - have never looked on there!

As Roy correctly stated you won't get a "perfect" car unless youre willing to pay a heck of a lot more than £2700.Youre right if the minor imperfections would have to be farmed out to rectify it would cost you a fair amount but theres no getting away from that fact.As I said eralier there are far worse cars out there for far more money.

I am learning from this forum and from trawling the adds that there are indeed worse cars out there with higher asking prices - equally there are cars at the top of my budget (which is more than £2700) that may not be perfect either but that may require less work than this particular one appears to. I haven't seen the car and am only going on the description in the ad which mentions rust spots in various locations all over it. This implies to me that a lot of work will be needed over the whole car. If anyone knows any different I would be interested in any information about this type of work and how much it might cost based on the info in the ad.

I know what my limitations are and I think that bodywork that is showing signs of rust all over is beyond them. That doesn't mean I have unrealistic expectations of perfection (as stated in my previous post).

Thanks

have a look at moggies at local classic car shows, you will see a wide range of cars in lots of different conditions,

you wull be abel to see the usual rust locations etc

you get less traveller per pound, than say a 2 door saloon, like mine :(

When looking for a car, there is a temptation to just go for one. However, the best advice is to not rush in. Be patient, and you will find the car that is right for you. With one of our Travellers, I had been looking for two months and viewed six cars, but walked away from them all. The right one then popped up just six miles from home. The Kent Branches Hop is coming up in September. It's a road run and and a rally/show, so there will be a number of cars there, possibly even one or two for sale (no guarantee of that) but there will be plenty of experts, and it's always a good idea to have a few friends around to assist with viewing a car. Even if you don;t have a Morris by then, you'll be made very welcome.

Does it have to be a Traveller? As nice as they are, Travellers do have their problems. They need under cover storage for a start and good ones do command higher prices. Would a Minor saloon not meet your needs? My 4 door has served me well for 10 years, done 2 house moves in that time and only now needs some restoration.
