Hello! ...And help?

Post by rainbox »

Hi everyone!

I'm Martine, I live in Woodbridge and I'm looking to buy a morris minor traveller. I'm pretty much a total novice when it comes to classic cars, or cars at all for that matter, but I'm a fast learner and intend to become mechanically minded enough to fix whatever goes wrong with it. I guess I'd like to make sure I don't bite off more than I can chew though, so I was wondering if you 'experts' can give me some advice. I've found this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 500wt_1414 that I really like, the seller has told me the good points, can you please tell me what's wrong with it, and what's involved in fixing it? I know you can't tell very much from pictures but any advice would be great :)

My budget is anywhere below £2500 by the way, if you know of any others that might work^^

Thanks guys! I'm excited to be a part of this club :)

Martine xx

Welcome to the forum - looks like an honest example - but do try to find someone who KNOWS to inspect the car before bidding. It may not be in your budget range though.......

Hi Martine and welcome.

Contact http://www.iceniminors.co.uk our Norfolk and Suffolk Branch. They will be local to you and may know of local cars up for sale, and someone may even be available to come and inspect on with you. :D

Hi,

I know its a bit late now, because bidding has ended, but the rusting along the rear edges of the front wing (by the door) can be indicitive of a serious rust problem in the inner wings and A post (the bit which the doors hinge on to) and the sill finishers look to be a bit on the crusty side too, so that would warrant a serious look and poke about before shelling out any real money....

Thanks guys, yes it was a bit too far away and unknown to do anything about...

I Went and saw one near me today and it was really nice where it counts but a bit too expensive unfortunately. At least I have a reference point now as to what a "good" one looks like. The wings were a bit rusty though, he said these are an easy fix as they're just bolted on. Is this true? If it is presumably rusty wings are not a major issue with any traveller (although I seem to have read the opposite), and shouldn't be too off-putting.

Iceni Minors doesn't seem to have an email address, which I found a bit strange. Is it normal protocol to have to pay again to join a local branch of a club you're already a member of?

Hopefully something will come up soon :)

Well - the wings do indeed bolt on, but it's hardly a 'just' - and removing the wings (usually a nightmare in itself) often reveals horrors underneath........ Avoid avoid!
