Why have the car registration plates changed?

Hello,

Myrtles number plates are AHJ 276C but I was looking through her paper work and her registration has changed over the years. Any ideas why? She started off as 8015 TW, then changed to 8TM 248C and then changed to her current number plate. All the changes are official and I have the correct paper work.

Just wondering why the number plate would change. There is probably a perfectly logical reason.

The original number was probably sold ,dvla then issue an NON=transferable number i.e. it can not be sold on ,but dvla will take it back when another cherished number is transferred on to the car,this can go on forever etc.
most ask for the "original number to go back on the car when they take their number with them to another car.(this will nt be the very first original number but the non transferable one !! but the dvl a do not always do this ,so a car can have more than one previous number .......... I'm getting confused now

Ah, okay, I get it.

It's ashame I don't own the original number plate. I think it would be worth more than the car itself.

It was probably sold to Mr TW to fund a resatoration/welding work on the car. It happened to mine. The owner sold the original plate to fund a resto and didn't like the new plate the dvla provided her with so applied for an age related one = ASL 642

Bit of a long shot but some ministry minors had regn swops.

Bit odd - presumably the chassis/body nos match?

All military Minors would have a reg swap when they were decommisioned. The original plates were two numbers, two letters, two numbers.

Not all minors carried the MoD regn series - have a list showing this.

When I worked for a car rental company,it was common for cars rented by the MoD to have several identities - legal 'cloning'!

I don't think the car is MOD (although to be fair I don't know the clues). The DVLA seems to think that the Morris has had 8 owners including myself but I can only trace 7 owners.

3rd Keeper - Mr RT Jenkins, Chelmsford 1985 - 2003
4th Keeper - Mr A Simmons, Berskshire, 2003 - 2011

6th keeper - Mr and Mrs Fox, Northamptonshire 2012
7th Keeper - myself.

I think the car had it's original number changed at the end of it's first owner in 1977.

From what I can gather, Mr Jenkins purchased the car in 1985 for £425 and it had the registration number ATM 248C. I've found service history for Mrs Eve Bennett which says the car also had the number plate ATM 248C.

In 2003 Mr Jenkins purchased new number plates for the car which takes it to it's current registration.

hi I wonder if the main dealers back in the 60's pre registered the car as they often do now?
so making the garage the first owner ?

also if a garage selling second hand cars keeps it too long it needed to register it ??????????

if the car was first registered in 1965 it would have been given a "C" plate so it looks like the first owner already had the number plate "8015 TW" so simply took it back off the car when he sold the car.

you can change the number of any car . Just put your number on a retension certificate £105 the DVLA will give you a new number New Tax Disk and Stamp your MOT or change the reg number . If you no longer want the number after 1 year you can ask for a refund of £80 you then lose the number or pay £25 for another year .
