Colour for floorboard supports

Post by fillpoke »

Could anyone please tell me if the metal rear floorboard supports in a traveller should be painted bodycolour or black? Also the metal cover which shields the petrol filler pipe.
Thanks for your help.

I'd have thought the floor support would be body colour, and the filler pipe cover would be black.

They wouldn't go to the trouble of painting the welded in supports a different colour after spraying the shell. And they would just have a bin full of covers all painted black to put onto any car, otherwise they'd have to keep a cover with each car during production so it could be painted with the shell.

Remember that Saloons and Travellers are very different. In a Saloon, the rear cross support is welded in and will be painted in body colour with the rest of the shell. The centre piece is added with the floor boards, and is black. With a Traveller, the floor supports are bolted on with the rear timber. As I said previously, the frame is black.
