Re: Arthur's New 2 door 71 Saloon - my first ever project
Hi Irmscher et al - well not posting cos too busy fixing! Small things seem to take the time - this evening, having got the engine back in I spent three hours wondering why it wouldn't start... checked all the wiring only to find the small black on in the distributor was broken! Bigger jobs seem quicker - so far then:
Almost everything removed, wire brushed, de greased and painted, for example the fuel tank:[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
Now back in place, along with a cleaned up, painted and derusted boot:[frame][/frame]
And the before picture...[frame][/frame]
I welded some patches on the floor inside too and painted with rustoleum...[frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
The rear arches were a pain - the repair panels from Bull just didn't fit properly!!!! But they did eventually!!![frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
And the rear axle and suspension... deciding I wanted a 'good' minor - I replaced the whole rear suspension and drive with new EXCEPT the axle which I got off a chap on here - thank you!!![frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

Thanks, it is coming together now - I think the only thing I won't be able to get done till after christmas is the headlining and the final general tidying - but it'll soon be rolling again!!

Just thought i should point out that you don't have the leaf springs fitted correctly. If you look at your pictures you will see that the passengers side is the wrong way round as you have 2 clamps behind the axle, whereas on the drivers side you have correctly got the 2 clamps in front of the axle.Arthurdaily wrote: [frame][/frame][frame][/frame]
Not picking fault with your work, just might be easier to turn it round at this stage!

Would be a good idea (if you havent already done so!) to fit up the rear wing and beading trim and make sure the wing fits and there are no gaps between wing and bodywork. You are right, those repro rear wing mounting flange panels are a poor fit, requiring lots of fettling. Next time, I'm going to make my own mounting flanges!Arthurdaily wrote:-snip

Cheers John - all comments IMHO

haha... can't blam Derek for that, it was me! lol - bum, still not a massive job to turn it round! Wings are on now - and gaps filled. WILL post pics as soon as I have time - but it's dark when I get home at the moment... Does having the spring the other way round make a difference?

You're doing a great job - I had big problems with rear arch panel fit too but sorted eventually - are the leaf spring clamps available separately? One of mine Is missing

Did some reasearch today and have been told it doesn't make much difference which way round the springs go... I'll change it anyway, just in case cos it IS a mistake... and for aesthetics - but interested to get a consnsus if it does make a difference from all you chaps and ladies...

Re: Arthur's New 2 door 71 Saloon - my first ever project
Well well well... It has taken a long time since I started this thread, but wanted to post these pictures now as a tribute to the man who helped me, a fellow member of the MMOC and a friend. Derrick, who some of you may know from Stockport, helped my last on Monday night to bleed the brakes for the final time, my now red morris is basically complete and my every day car, I hope you like the pictures below.
Sadly, however, Derrick was found in his garage with his traveller and saloon later on Monday night, dead. He had been working on his beloved traveller when it happened.
God rest his soul.[frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

Though I'd only known him for 18 months, he had become a great friend - I'm not sure how I'll get over it actually - after the death of my own father last year he'd become almost a surigate father. Still this finally almost finished car can be a tribute to him.

Sorry to hear the news about your friend. My condolences.
Your car is looking good - very different from the first picture at the start of this thread!
