Bifurcated rivets
Bought a new parcel shelf for my '59 as it came without one.It has the round heater and theres an extra bit that fixes in front of that. They were originally fixed together and to the crashbar with these rivets and I have some both copper and ali so may as well use them. Was there a special tool that opened the split end up as it tightened?I think there must have been as it'll be a right faff fitting them without.

Re: Bifurcated rivets
I have the same problem with fitting tightly the name badges to the rocker box cover.
On my parcel shelf the round/triangular bit fastened to the main parcel shelf with nuts and bolts using a 4 lenghts of painted metal for shape , but the triangular bit itself was fastened together with the rivets. I think for fitting parcelshelf to car body POP rivets or similar will be OK unless trying to be original.

I can't imagine there is a tool for these rivets, you need to open them with a blade after they're in place and bend the prongs over . The difficulty is stopping the rivet pushing back while you're doing it. Maybe someone else pushing against the rivet head.
They need washers behind the prongs.
