Series Two Windscreen Finishers.

Post by Boomlander »

Hi Folks,
Can anyone advise me if it is possible to remove the finishing trims from the split screen without actually removing the rubber and glass? I would like to add them to my collection of metal parts for rechroming. :-?

Are they not stainless? From what I gather it's just too much hassle removing them and trying to re-fit, plus there is a risk they can be damaged when being removed.

I guess they could be stainless - there's certainly no sign of rust on them.
If so I will have a go with me trusty dremel polisher and see if they start to shine! :D

Aye I thought so - just seem to remember on my own S.II they show no signs of tarnishing and the owner's manual mentions stainless trim somewhere.

There is no need to remove anything else but re fitting might be a problem if the trim is mis shaped. Do not lose the centre clips, they are not available

They can be removed, easy, and refitted fiddly but do able if you take your time, the danger is damaging the rubber lip,use a blunt tool.If you send them off strap them down onto a flat board,if they get bent you will never refit them properly.I wouldnt try to polish them they have a very thin coating of chrome and you risk going through to the brass under coat which will look worse than you have now(Don't ask how I know this)

They do appear to be brass with a fine coating of chrome, so I think I will just give them a wipe over with the leather and leave them be!
