OK, so you've saved £200 by shopping around....or have you? They're going to double/triple your price as soon as your pass your test which, I assume, you plan to do within the next 12 months?

One of the benefits of the Footman James scheme is that the policy cost doesn't increase when you pass your test. Most companies will increase the price as, all of a sudden, you're let loose on your own without a 'responsible adult' sat next to you. Also consider that your Footman James policy includes your breakdown cover, I pay £11 a month for lesser quality breakdown cover (non-European) from the RAC. Legal expenses, Agreed Value and Personal Accident cover are also included

The policy benefits that Footman James include free of charge would currently cost an additional £98 with a Lancaster policy so, if you're comparing prices, it's worth bearing that in mind

I've been with Footman James for years (as Bain Hogg, then Aon etc pre Footman James take-over), and they were always super. However, despite no claims, they have increased my premium by 50% in the space of 2 years, which I simply don't find acceptable. The fact is that now, despite the special MMOC discount, it is possible for many people to get a cheaper deal elsewhere. It's worth pointing out that, in response to the quote that a cheaper quote often means less quality regarding service (that I've seen mentioned by the MMOC), they weren't saying that when Footman James were the cheapest!!! It's an issue i would love to raise at the AGM, but unfortunately I don't think I will be able to make it on that day. I've now changed to RH Insurance, who were far more helpful, offer exactly the same level of benefits, and are cheaper even in the absence of a super duper deal set up through the MMOC.

No one broker will ever be all things to all people. If we were the cheapest for absolutely everybody then we wouldn't be in business for very long

The benefits I listed have always been included, even when were the cheapest for your particular circumstances

RH do offer a quality product but certainly don't offer exactly the same level of benefits so you're not comparing like for like. Have another look at your policy booklet and see what's not included ;) RH have a completely different business model to Footman James as RH will exclude all the higher risks like under 25's and such. Because of this their loss ratios are very low so premiums will sometimes be cheaper for those safe risks which they are willing to take on.

The MMOC work very hard alongside Footman James to monitor both the pricing and quality of service that members receive. I meet with Ray Newell regularly and speak to Liz at the Derby MMOC office almost every week.

It's been said that the young members are the future of the club. A policy of only insuring the safest risk drivers is hardly in line with that thinking.

To Dave@FJ- I appreciate what you're saying. Regarding the young being the future of the club, I had hoped that at 35 I still had a bit of future left in me! Oh well. I think what i find hard to swallow is that my premium has risen by 50%, despite no changes on my part, in 2 years. That, I'm afraid, seems unfair. My modern motor policy certainly hasn't risen by the same degree. I'm pleased that you insure the younger drivers, but it seems that us who aren't 'the future of the club' are subsidising it  Rest assured, some young drivers aren't getting a good deal either. A friend of mine tried to insure his young son and daughter on a £1500 Minor, neither with any convictions, and living in rural Oxfordshire, and was quoted £1800. That doesn't seem terribly good value for money to me, even if the policy is better than the others on offer! I'd basically love to know why the premiums have gone from being such a super deal to mediocre at best, in spite of your frequent meetings with the club etc. It's a shame that nobody has been able to tell me, as in my case, you've lost my custom, insuring 3 Morris Minors and a Type 2 VW Camper Van too. It seems that these days, all too often, loyal customers don't get the deals they might hope for.

At the National on Saturday I got FJ to verbally quote for our car and quoted our MMOC Membership number

Were not 'young;' members and have 80+ years driving experience between us, the car doesn't do a lot of miles and is garaged at night.

They promised to check other possible alternative options on Monday and e mail me.

Well the quote they gave initially was £100 more than my Lancaster renewal quote

RH quoted £1 different to Lancaster, but with a higher agreed valuation on the car and return of salvage included free

Both include breakdown cover, UK and EU so a fair comparison

I'm still waiting for any follow up contact from FJ and needless to say, won't be using their services

Hello! I'm 53, have 15 years with no-claims and a 5,000 mile per year limit and I've just been dumped by the AA. At this point I'd be happy if anyone would insure me at all !

Any tips on willing insurers would be appreciated immensely - I'm uninsured as of the 2nd August ...

Its all gone off the rails for one main reason. No Win, No Fee slime ball ambulance chasers, acting on information being sold to them by the very same insurance companies that shaft us, without at least having the decency to apply a blob of vaseline.

Try specialist car insurance in braintree £89 for me and my girlfriend with roadside recovery

Well if any of you are in Leeds, you're in for a nasty shock with FJ! They have changed their underwriter rules and will now no longer insure anyone in Leeds who doesn't garage their car overnight.

Thank god we're moving to a house with a garage...its still an increase from parking on the road, but I do have an additional mog on the policy now...so maybe thats why

Bridle, Footman James and Adrian Flux worked out a great deal for me for insurance on my '72 MGBGT; ending up going with Bridle as they were a little cheaper than the others and great service- did it all over the phone whilst I waited -Below £100 with a few added benefits. Still can't quite believe the price...

I used Adrian Flux for four years.

I am a Certified ROSPA Advanced driving Tutor - AF have a special on ROSPA members.

The first year I obtained a 60% discount on my renewal quote by going with Equity Red Star Insurance (a Lloyds consortium) through Adrian Flux.

When I was sent the renewal for year 2 the premium had risen by 100%.

Equity Red Star told me that Adrian Flux were a 'preferred' Broker and effectively set their own premium for each individual policy without any reference to Equity Red Star - they just handed over a 'premium' for all policies written.

After three years of fighting every renewal quote I have now left Adrian Flux.

I am not suggesting that they do (or will) treat all their 'valued clients' the same way they have treated me - but my advice would be to check their renewal quote against comparison sites before accepting - they seem to make up their first (and/or second) year loss-leader by padding the renewals.

Over the four years my premium quote with Adrian Flux quadrupled despite no points or claims - I refused their last quote and found insurance with Lloyds for less than half of the Adrian Flux quote.

beware if you are an Adrian Flux customer.

That's standard practice for most insurance companies - the initial quote is cheap to attract new customers. You might find that your new insurer does the same.

Well, today it was my turn.
£150.00 last year raised to an offer of £185.00 this year, so I shopped and changed and got it down to £99.00 with 5000 miles limited mileage.
No names no pack drill, but the usual suspects apply.
