Post by ronnie »

Hi all , mines is a 68 minor 1000 positive earth. Any advice on the changing to an alternator :-? Will it fit straight on to the engine block or mods needed and the wiring ???

Do you actually need an alternator? A good dynamo on a standard car is quite sufficient, even in winter.

Well, the Minor's electrics are pretty limited and don't draw much current; if you struggle in winter with wipers, heater and lights on all at once first check dyno brushes and then perhaps upgrade.

I have to say I never yet charged a battery on a standard Minor because the dynamo wasn't charging it fully.

change to an alternator is very easy and well worth while,if you do a lot of short runs and winter driving, and want piece of mind all year round, second thing I did after radials, however I do have a heated rear window plus radio and like to run on sidelights.
one year and no problems ,ya pays ya money and takes ya choice ,good luck :D
Cheers Alex
