Oil Pressure Switch

I am thinking of fitting an oil pressure gauge but want to retain the oil pressure light as well so will have to fit a T piece to connect both up.
Can anybody advise what the thread so I get the right T piece

1/8" BSP - the end that fits into the block needs to have a male taper thread, the other 2 are normally a female parallel thread. One that takes the original oil pressure switch that has a taper thread, and the other for a double ended 1/8" BSP male adaptor; one end with a taper thread to go into the 'T' piece (or a parallel thread and copper washer), the other a parallel thread to take the nut and olive used on the tubing that goes up to the gauge.

Any of the Mini places will sell you the correct T connector -but Richard has described it exactly! However if you go into an auto place with that information - their eyes will just glaze over......

is this the same as a Sensor Mounting Thread:NPT 1/8"?

my main question is what is the difference between BSP and NPT???

Two different threads, you will only get an 1/8 npt male thread to enter a bsp female by a couple of threads if you are lucky, a wholly unsatisfactory arrangement for an oil system. The npt thread form originates in the states, the bsp form here. You can get the parts required from ESM, the T piece is part number ACC203 at £5.95. They also supply the pipe and other adaptor required for the conversion. Other suppliers are available. My experience also says the oil gauge kit is a good idea, the temp gauge not so much.[frame]Image[/frame]

Ace!!! I have found some amazing gauges that I want see! So all I need is that £5 kit and I'm sorted! And one for the water I i guess too as that's the same, I want a water temp too gauge too! :)

You wouldn't know the part number for the pipe and adaptor?!? :D

They are all available on the ESM website, but if the car runs cool i.e. its not blowing from the rad cap, then the water gauge is probably surplus to requirements,I learned that the hard way and wasted my money really. An oil gauge is good though, if you dont want to spoil the original look of the dash, there are ready punched mounting holes for a bracket under the drivers side glove box, you will need to loosen the posidrive screws that hold it in for spanner access.

The best temp gauge is the capillary one which is absolutley reliable and reads whether the ign is on or off, so if you have left the car for a while you can tell how warm the engine is (useful for starting again if you've overheated).

I find EMS web site heard to nav round, what is the exact name or part number for the adapter :) I searched adapter but didn't didn't seem to find what I expected :/ thanks david

Its not too difficult honest, go to the search bar and type in "oil pressure" ive just tried it and all the parts are there, good luck.

I utilised the 3rd 4th and 5th items,I assume you have a gauge and the switch is already in your engine?
The pipe offered comes with the nuts to fit the gauge and the fittings.

No -.- the gauge doesn't use a pipe! The Switch/ sender won't fit I'm to the engine because the thred is a tiny bit different.

Get parts with the correct threads in the first place...........Mixing and matching is a BAD idea.
