That item 66?

Suggests; A lever or projecting arm that moves or is moved by contact with another part, usually to transmit motion, as between a driving mechanism and a valve.

It's been my experience that a cam follower has a roller component that mates w/the cam, rather than a flat surface.

Cam follower is indeed item 66. The 'lever' etc is a rocker arm.......not a 'tappet'.....

Who cares if it's technically got tappets or not?!

Alex said he had a 'tappety' noise... not a tappet noise. An engine can make a 'pinking' noise without being pink!

Alex, have you made any progress with your problem?

Yes - that is indeed a sidebar to the main issue!

Thanks, tbh no not yet, but having checked the gaps again, they seem fine still and have no closed up at all etc yet or anything.
Not going to use technical terms as this obviously just causes disagreements... So the gap you slide the feeler gauges into, the bottom metal piece of these that get hammered, are quite worn, and I think this is probably a part of the issue. But whilst everything is running fine, and from this thread it seems nothing too serious, I will just leave it. I have a spare set, or a 12g940 head with sintered type ones to go if the problem gets worse.

A video or sound file might help, does it sound like one or two tappets or all of them?
The hardening on rocker arms is very thin, not normally an issue but once it's gone through due to to lack of lube the underlying metal is relatively soft and wears quite fast, this makes checking the gaps very difficult.
