What motor oil ????
I want to change my oil on my 1966 moggie. I know i should use a 20/50 mineral oil but which brand ???? They range from Cheap supermarket own brands to overpriced Halfords. There must be a midway isnt there ??????
All suggestions welcome. Im working on a budget and im not convinced the more you pay the better you get , after all oil is oil isnt it ???

Re: What motor oil ????
Was it the Carlube Daytona you meant? I see that on their website but not the Comma Motorway. Also, I've seen the Motorway elsewhere but didn't see a spec on it. I emailed Comma and they confirmed that it didn't have a spec. How much do these API specs matter?

The Wilkinson 20W50 is fine for a Minor - it's not exactly a racing engine. Change it (and the filter) every 3000 miles.
Re: What motor oil ????
Many moons ago I ran a morris on comma oil and it was forever having a burnt valve problem on No4 cylinder. This only started when I switched to comma oil. After about 5 head off jobs ,switched back to Duckhans 20/50,no further problem.
Buy the best oil you can find not the cheapest.

I did use Comma 20w50 from boyes, but I tend to get the Wilko's 20w50 and have a couple of litre bottles of asda oil kicking around the garage fro any top ups. No problems from either.
Re: What motor oil ????
Any thought on Vegetable oils?
I was thinking R40 and earlier oil changes?

If you don't understand it, take it apart and see how it works?

Because it's £10 a litre?
I'd us it as a fuel additive or after shave if you like the smell

Re: What motor oil ????
Is it really okay to use vegetable oils? If yes, can you give any precautions or whatever when using it.

Re: What motor oil ????
Not unless you use very expensive oil formulated for engine use, probably not even then.Is it really okay to use vegetable oils?

Re: What motor oil ????
I just did a service on my Pick Up last week and used Halfords' own 20/50 which seems to be of good quality. Furthermore, my Series 3 Landrover has been using Comma 20/50 which is much thinner than the Halfords one. I will now use the Halfords oil for all my classic cars. You get what you pay for in my humble opinion.
Re: What motor oil ????
I was informed that Comma make and supply oil for all the 'Wilkos' and 'halfords' etc in this world. This was from the 'Fat bloke' down the local vehicle factors.
Don't know how true this is though. Anyone?

I've heard mutterings that they make it for Halfords, on here and other palces, but it's never been confirmed.daveyl wrote:I was informed that Comma make and supply oil for all the 'Wilkos' and 'halfords' etc in this world. This was from the 'Fat bloke' down the local vehicle factors.
