In place of Dum Dum

Post by fillpoke »

I'm about to refit the alloy panels into the new wooden sides of my Traveller. I know that in the past dum dum would have been used between the panel and the wood as a sealer to keep out water. Now that Dum Dum is not available what's the best thing to use?
thanks,
Dave

Hi

the original sealant was butyl rubber like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220511701496? ... 1423.l2649

Its also available in a sealant tube.. look for 'Butyl Rubber'

Dum dum was a similar material

This is what I used:

(in black). Nicer to apply than silicone - can be painted over - wipes off with turps while wet.
I've given up buying silicone in the house now too!
