I use supermarket petrol, and never killed an engine,------btw how would you do that other than running without oil/ water or running at full revs for days?

Seems it was just a case of general 803 weakness which a lot of owners have had the same problems with. The oil pressure had been really low for quite some time (barely 5psi at hot idle). It's in pieces now and only the one big end melted - just a fact of life I suppose. :(
