Engine backplate

Post by beero »

One for BMCecosse and other experts.

Will an engine back plate from a Morris Minor 1098 fit a 1275 Midget engine?
I have heard that it will need some modification but is this correct and, if so, what modification is needed?

It's a question asked on MGOC forum, I said I would ask on here.

Yes - it can be fitted - but you need to open it up around the main bearing hole - small angle grinder does the job. And either increase the size of the top dowel hole - or use a 1098 dowel in the 1275 block. Also take care with oil pump selection - it's fine with the (believed better anyway) 'steel backed' pump. But may foul with some of the other after-market pumps.
