Another temp gauge problem

Post by PAULJ »

Right my temp gauge is on hot all the time. Now volt staboliser is good as the fuel gauge is correct. Ive fitted a new sender, still hot so ran a wire from new sender to another gauge to a new volt staboliser all in the engine bay. Still hot. I have read a lot about people moaning about new flasher cans not working and I have had new spark plugs not work so my question is. Anyone fitted a new sender that didnt work?
Thanks

I have deleted the questions I had written out here which, if the original poster had tried to answer them, might have enabled me, or one of the many experienced and knowledgable contributors, to help resolve his problem. I don't want them dismissed as "stupid questions".

Another one joins the list.

My question was certainly not 'stupid' - it was intended to help diagnose the problem...., but I guess you don't understand that......your answer certainly is stupid. Good luck with the problem!

Is it possible to reverse polarity on the guage, would that make it read backwards, mind I supose it would then go the otherway when the engine warmed up,does it move at all from the hot position.

I thought of that and tried it. it was the same.

Now sorted. I had another sender sent for the same gauge. Gauge is a smith one from a GT6 which the sender was for. I checked resistance of both senders which should be both the same
first one 500 Ohms the second 900 Ohms. less the resistance the hotter the gauge reading.
The second one works fine.

So if you put a temp gauge on the car and it is reading hot be it AM or PM the sender may be at fault even if its new.
