UK made condensers available again!

Post by chickenjohn »

I've ordered four and will fit them to my cars and report back.

Hopefully these UK made condensors will be of the old reliable high quality. Until production was shifted to Mexico, I literally NEVER had a condensor fail on a Minor. Had a couple of coils pack up but did not have a condensor failure on any of my Minors.

This could even tempt folks back from electronic ignition which will leave you stranded if it goes wrong!

I expect all the other suppliers will sell the UK condensors as well, and hopefully UK made points that fit properly.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Good news. :D I'll crack the champers open

Have you had condensors fail regularly John? Never had any problems myself (yet), I don't know what make you bought before but I use Intermotor points and condensors and never had any trouble.

I've only had a couple of condensors fail on me, but have had a couple of bad sets of points that wouldn't fit the car properly!
The car didn't break down, just stuttered a lot. At least a condensor is easy to change.

Hopefully, we can expect 12,000 miles and a few years reliable service out of each condensor now.

I've never had any trouble with the condensors I've purchased from BM & ESM. I have, however, had several dodgy sets of points that seem to drop out of alignment, resulting in poor running.

At the risk of getting called a silly Bu--er or something else, I seem to recall someone in the dark distant past saying to me that some makes of condensor do not like being fitted to a positive earth car, I look forward to the replies.

I've gone through 2 condensors after 7 months driving. Went electric, I keep the old dizzy in the boot but the "if it fails you wont be able to fix it" argument doesn't sway me - I don't carry spare pistons or whatever, because they don't fail anywhere near the frequency of points etc.

I know they are always fixable, but I don't want to be rooting arround in the bonnet at the side of a motorway in the dark... Or to have to cut across three lanes of traffic with the engine cut out because of the damn things!

That said, its good that they are finally making some better quality ones.

Even BM and ESM for a while had to sell the dodgy "made in Mexico" items! You may have been lucky.
