Tracing my old lowlight morris minor

Post by Annie_1952 »

When I was about 20 I bought an unrestored lowlight Morris Minor from a man in Shipton On Stour and we collected it on a low loader from a farmers's yard in Halford.
Unfortunately I never got it restored but preserved it and sold it on about 20 years ago. I cannot recall if I sold two lowlights together to the same person (one had been used for target practice), I was living in a village called Appleby Magna/Parva at the time near M42/A42 (Twycross Zoo). I do not remember the registration number so cannot find out this way.
I would really like to know if it was ever restored and equally if it was ever put back on the road.
I seem to think that the gentleman had written a book on Morris Minors and my boyfriend at the time (now husband) is convinced his name was Ray.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks very much.

Could possibly be the club secretary Ray Newell? I know he has had several series MM's - a 4 dr highlight model, a 2 door lowlight in black which was used in classic racing/rallying in the late 80's/early 90'sand a lowlight tourer which he still has. Mike Perry who is a regular on the forum also runs the series MM register so knows - as far as it is possible to know - where most of the surviving series MM's are. If you could remember the reg number that would certainly help in tracing the car. Good luck

Thanks for the reply, it may not have been Ray then because it was definitely a low light morris minor and I still had her in unrestored condition until the early/mid 1990's. I wish I could remember the reg number but sadly it seems to have slipped from my memory some time ago!

Check the list of MM cars on the register - you may recognise the number.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, I've already been through the register and just have no idea.
I dont think the reg number was on the car, best idea yet is checking through old photos, sounds simple but I hadn't thought of that! May have a dig out of photos over the weekend and post them on here sometime. Particularly the lowlight I bought which was nicknamed Timmy Targetpractice, such a shame what the farmer's sons had done to it, but its this that makes the remaining ones more sought after. I did rob it for spares that would fit Annie.
