Good width on wheels?

Post by Sumilidon »

Hello,

I like the standard wheels, but I'm looking to have a bit more rubber on the road for those lovely roundabouts / wet roads. I know the 1000 has a somewhat dated fitting, but I'm not sure as to what width and offset to consider which would fit well, while also offering a greater width.

Any suggestions? (without the risk of rubbing)

Welcome to the forum. You are right to think better wheels and tyres are a top priority. The later 'vans' were fitted with 4.5" wide wheels and these (with 155 X 80 X 14 radials) do make a big improvement. Wider alloy wheels (and suitable tyres) are available from a number of suppliers - JLH are popular! http://www.jlhmorrisminors.co.uk/store/ ... ductId=236

13 x 5.5 Midget wheels with 175/80/13 tyres. Same circumference as 155/80/14 tyres.
Not a good idea to go too wide on tyres as they will will be more likely to aquaplane on wet roads and not necessarily improve handling/roadholding

Picked them up at a national rally a few years ago
They also hide a pair of 9in stoppers and fit Series MM hubcaps

It does look to be a good sensible alternative - especially the ' 9" stoppers"........
