Re: 70 Amp alternator wiring
Why on earth would you need 70 amps ??????????? The answer is - NO - the main cables won't be heavy enough to take 70 amps. Just double the heavy cable up - then it will be fine! And do tell what you will do with 70 amps.......

Re: 70 Amp alternator wiring
Firstly, it came at the right price.
Secondly I am considering fitting heated front and rear screens, along with other accessories would mean a standard one would be stretched on short journeys.
After all a 1300 metro is hardly covered in lots of electrical devices, and rover deemed it necessary

Re: 70 Amp alternator wiring
The cable size you will need is at least 8.50mm or 120/0.30mm, but this is a real pig to run neatly as it is very unwieldy. What termination is on the new alternator? Screw post or push-on Lucar. Many Lucas alternators have 2 output terminals, both push-on 35A Lucar, so the easiest way is to run a smaller cable (half the size) from each terminal in parallel - in this case 2 x 4.5mm or 2 x 65/0.30mm. Brown cable in these sizes is commonly available from auto-electricians.

Re: 70 Amp alternator wiring
The alternator has two lucar terminals, and a screw terminal. I will run two cables as suggested.
