Hi all. Well the camper van made it to the TT and back. Next year I want to tow a trailer and bike, so will need more power.
The engine is coming out for a recon (1275 Ital) and ill fit a 5 speed box. Having gone to the trouble of fitting an Ital box i was pleased to find the marina boys do a type 9 conversion for £100. you use the Ital bell housing. Now my question is if I fit a metro cam. Are they all the same, is there any to avoide and is the late ital head the same as the metro head as it seems to be. if I fit a metro cam is there any other changes needed, dissy, oil pump etc and would it be worth it. I dont want to go fast but do want to pull a load ?
Thanks
Paul

Re: metro cam
Only the MG Metro cam is any use.....a normal Metro cam is no better than the one you have. Heads all the same too - unless you find a big valve version - fitted to Cooper S/MG Metro (early only)/Austin 1300 GT and I think perhaps the Maestro 1275 - which may also have the MG Metro cam fitted. Since MG Metro cams are much sought after and hard to find - the general view is that the '266' cam sold by a number of firms is very similar. Cam change is straightforward - but does require engine out to do so..... Although some have managed it using 8 magnetic probes to hold up the cam followers - the followers would then be lowered for inspection/renewal before fitting the new cam.
