Lost in the post!

Post by rogerowen »

In an attempt to warn others..........

I recently bought a carburettor from a member who advertises in the 'for sale' section. Although it was thought to be in good condition and the right one for my car, when it arrived it was not the correct type and was in poor condition. I'm on a tight budget and the seller offered to replace it with a better one on return, so I posted the original one back to him. It never arrived! Although very well packed with clear address labels and senders address details - it got lost in the post. I used the Royal Mail internet postage service (first and last time!), and because this does not generate proof of posting I am unable to claim for the loss so now I'm £50 down and no carburettor too boot. I understand that Royal mail have now corrected the lack of proof of posting on internet orders. But in hindsight I should have sent it 'signed for'.
That's strange R2, the damage doesn't look so bad from here!

Well actually about £45 for the HS2 with a seized needle, very worn throttle assembly and a wood screw blocking the rocker cover breather inlet, and then £5 to post it back to the seller. And, no the seller did not see me right - all pretty disappointing really. He also sold me an air cleaner - but without the special bolt that holds the lid on, and I haven't found one yet. :(

Well - that was a ridiculous price for an HS2 - even if it had been in sparkling tip top condition..... Ok it was an H2 I bought - and was less than £5 post to me - and it's in excellent condition! Can you please PM me the details of the seller - I won't reveal on here - it's just so I can avoid dealing with them in future......

Pm me as well please. This bolt is it a hollow threaded tube about 1 1/2inches long with a wingnut type of top? If I can find one I'll post it to you.

Can only advise anyone about to buy anything through this forum to check with Roger for the full sad story. I continue to be amazed that the seller is not 'putting this right' with Roger. On the very few occasions I sell an item through the forum I send it off, and don't expect any payment until the buyer is happy with the item. I've never been let down.

post the guys name
and blacklist him
we dont want our club name ruined
if we dont stamp on these so called club members it will be the thin edge of the wedge
withdraw his membership and tell him to sing for his outstanding membership monies
for the remainder of his term
what are the moderators thinking
as buyers we should look at the length of his membership term and if he only joined last week and all he has done is try and sell stuff dont buy

Alexander - There is a process in place for reporting disputes with sellers and there are 'stickies' in the for sale forums to make all messageboard members aware of this. Additionally, a further 'sticky' detailing tips for buyers & sellers was posted at the weekend. Buying or selling items with people you only know through an internet chatroom is never risk free and this messageboard isn't any different to any others in that regards. The majority of transactions here are trouble free but if there is a problem with a particular buyer or seller we need to know about it which is why we ask members to contact the moderators with details.

In this particular case, the seller offered to provide a replacement part but Roger sent the original part back via an untracked postage method and it was lost in the post. Difficult to see how this has could "ruin the club's name" as you suggest. Roger has not made any complaint to the moderators regarding a dispute with the seller so we have not been provided with the full facts of the matter or even the name of the seller in question. If Roger doesn't wish to provide us with the details that is entirely up to him. As for 'withdrawing club membership' you seem to be assuming that everyone who posts here is a club member but that is not the case.

Roger - If you wish to report a complaint please do so using the dispute process and let the moderators know the full details.

Thank you.
