Carb Identification

Post by beanpole »

I am having problems with my carb and want to get another from the scrapyard to try.

I am unable to identify my carb,(apart from the fact it is an SU), it is mounted via 4 bolts to a 'mini sport' ally manifold, with integral float chamber.

All the carbs I look at so far are mounted to the manifold via two bolts..

ANy idea what car thsi carb may have come off ?, the dashpot is a lot larger in dia than the original fitted to my Moggy, (which I still have with the old manifold, but this wont fit with the stainless exhaust currently fitted).

If it has 4 holes then it's either a HIF38 or HIF44.

If you can measure the diameter of the carb (where the air goes through) that will tell you. If it's it's either going to be 38mm or 44mm. I suspect it's 38mm in which case it's a HIF38 as found on 1.0 Metros.

The 2 bolt carbs are SU HS series (if the holes are diagonal) or H series if the holes are vertical (if I remember correctly).
