Farewell Dolly

Post by Relfy »

Keep going
sb
Thanks sb.

Took her back today.

Keith bought her back for £50 less than I paid. What a crook.
His reasons? "Cos now I've got all this work to do on her"
Ha! What?!

Well, I guess thats a lesson well learned on my part.

Thanks everyone, so much, for helping me sort this out and get clued-up!
I really am so grateful.

Cheers
Eleanor

On balance I'm glad that he did take Dolly back and at a cost of £50 you could look at it as a cheap escape (compared to the £100s it would have cost to do all the welding). I have a feeling that Koo's moggie can be brought up to scratch for less money than you paid for Dolly. Any comments Ray?

As for Dolly? I guess 'Keith' will have to do a bit of work on her before he tries to flog the car (with a new dodgy MOT?) to someone else :x . Let's hope the next prospective buyer can spot all the problem areas.... :-?

Ah well, as Chris said, 50 quid loss is better than being stuck with Dolly (though I'm sure she was very nice in some respects...). And now you've got all that lovely cash to spend on that nice maroon minor of yours.... :-)

now that reminds me of a song...

I should be so lucky,
luuuucky
lucky
luucky...

You are indeed very lucky! I wish I had only lost £50 on each bad car I bought :-D

Sorry for the delay - I'm not stalling - honest. Got back with the car late on Sunday, Germany Monday + Tuesday and worked late last night...
I do promise to give it a good looking at ASAP. ;-)
People have already asked me if I have another car - then I have to explain that none of the cars on the drive belong to me (yes the dreaded XJ40 is still there waiting for the e-bay timewaster to turn up)

Sidney is a bit down on his/her luck with rusted wings, rotted at the bottom of the quarter panel, dented on the boot, but s/he really has a certain charm and a lovely colour (I'm not convinced Sid is a boy). I'll have to have a look underneath to make sure.

If everything looks fixable, it will be a good job I'm honest as I'm sorely tempted to keep her. 8) 8)

Dont' mither Ray, El! YOU are going to do the welding!! And from what I have seen/heard, I think Sid is pretty OK mechanically except for the state of charge of the battery, and running on 3 cylinders (probably due to the damp though).

Well the battery has been on charge for 4 days so that may well be sorted for now. The running on 3 cylinders may just be stale petrol (Dotty did the same and I wasted ages 'fixing it' a few months later she wouldn't fire at all and that helped me find the problem.)
As for being mechanically ok - those brakes are VERY stuck :-( and the door hinges were in need of some TLC, but that's all I got to check in the 10 metre test-drive (off the trailer an onto the driveway).
The real decider is going to be the underneath, but i'm staying optimistic until I've seen it.
