Classic Washer Bottle?

Post by Boomlander »

Hi All,
Since we bought Jethro last October I have always hated the plastic and aluminium windscreen washer bottle that lives on the bulkhead above the fuel pump.
Had a look on Ebay and bought a couple of old 60s vehicle fire extinguishers, one brass and one chromed.
Decided on the chrome one as it went better with the black painted engine bay and having drilled the filler cap to take the washer pump hose I test fitted it to see how it looked.
The result looks so much better than the modern bottle and it holds about a litre of screenwash so is more than adequate.
Just got to remove the old bottle and hook up the hose to the new one.
Marks out of 10?
P.S. anyone looking for a similar bottle in brass?[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

There are quite a few of these extinguishers available on Ebay at the moment and as they are made of brass they are rust free and ideal for the job :D

looks great. did you use the standard extinguisher brackets to mount it to the bulkhead?

Yes the standard bracket that comes with the extinguisher screwed straight on to the bulkhead.
Had to remove a small metal tag that locates on the filler to allow the hose to be fitted through the cap but apart from that a real easy job - Just make sure the pump is located below the bottle to prevent back syphoning. :D[frame]Image[/frame]

LOOKS FABULOUS!
A really fine job....Looks like we may have started a new fashion and found a good use for the old unused extinguishers. And what a simple upgrade from the plastic bottle!
Watch the price of these shoot up on Ebay now!! :D

Just as I thought, there are about sixteen useable extinguishers on Ebay, some with brackets, and they range from £15 to £80 "Buy it now" plus postage and there are starting bids of around £10 on the auction ones.
Get 'em while they're still available folks![frame]Image[/frame]
