No MOT for Pre 1960's

Couple of points - is this the date of registration or date the car was built?

Will this make it easy for anyone with a pre 1960's car which is laid up to sell the registration number?

It based on date of manufacture but the reg transfer aspect has not been made clear as yet......

unless they introduce some form of examination,which defeats the objective of removing the mot so probably not. then yes that been the point of some discussion in original thread, a rusty wreck with no engine seats or suspension,so long as its still on sorn and you have the reg doc,you just need to insure it,go on line and tax it then sell the reg,or put it on retention which would be the more appropriate thing to do.bet they are going to be flooded with this next year must be thousands laid about the country,Its one good thing I suppose to come out of it, at least you can get something for your wreck

To quote the DVLA website:

To transfer the registration number, both vehicles must be:

registered at the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA)
available for inspection
of a type that needs an MOT or heavy goods vehicle (HGV) test certificate
currently taxed

I was looking for the available for inspection bit, as I vaguely remembered that DVLA could ask to inspect the vehicle - i think you have to take it to the local office if the ask.

The third requirement was a surprise. That would mean that vehicles built before 1960 can no longer have their registration number transferred. Unintended consequences perhaps?

no they just haven't looked this far into it,they will simply change the wording to....... a vehicle requiring an mot. Don't forget the dvla have a massive trade in cherished numbers themselves they wouldnt want to loose out on that revenue.If you scrap a vehicle the dvla keep that number and if interesting can re issue for a price.
