Replacement of dynamo with alternator

Hi everyone,
I have just replaced the dynamo in my 1964 Morris with an alternator,(kit supplied by Morris Minor Centre,Birmingham). Battery is charging O.K., but now the headlights, sidelights, horn & wipers are not working. The fuses look O.K., and I am wondering if while disconnecting the regulator wires and connecting the new wiring loom from the alternator, I have damaged or altered the lighting circuit.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Obviously YES! You should have left the regulator in place and just taken away the D and F wires....... You need to join together the cables that were on the A and A1 terminals if you remove the regulator......

All the wires were removed from the regulator,as per supplied instructions. The wires removed from A and A1 (actually shown misplaced on the diagram) were reconnected, although the instructions are not clear on exactly how this is done. An ammeter showed current at A1, but not at A (with ignition switched on). The folk at the Morris Minor Centre have no idea why the lights are not working, and unfortunately neither do I !

Your post isn't clear,have you re connected a and a1 or joined them togther outside of the old regulator as should be done.

By far the best bet is to leave the regulator in place. I urge you to do that. The 'instructions' are clear enough -but much unnecessary work in there. You can in fact use the original D and F wires.

A and A1 are now joined together outside the regulator. I will try BMecosse's suggestion and re-connect them to the regulator, which is still in place. Won't manage to work on the car until after the weekend.Thanks for the advice so far.

Please see the post 'Ammeter' - there are circuit diagrams to cover the alternator conversion with and without an ammeter. Without an ammeter the old control box makes a convenient terminal block for the connections, but so long as all the wires that were connected to A and A1 are connected together, (and properly insulated if away from the control box), that part of the conversion will be fine.
